A Shopping Trip is a fun filled math book about Alma and her mom taking a trip to go shopping. Each page is filled with a realistic situation of Alma buying different items and calculating the cost.

Classroom Idea. This book is a good book to teach addition of dollars and cents up to $10 .00 It gives the students actual images of the money to add, which will help students in making connection with the money they use in real life. It a non-fiction and students can relate to the story and can easily make connections with the shopping trip experience as well. It can also be use to teach decimal fraction and budgeting to older students.

Rate: *****I highly recommend this book for students ages 8 through 12. It is very kid friendly and the picture along with the shopping experience is very relatable to students’ life. It is a book which will entice students to read and incorporate math into their reading. In this book problem solving is incorporated into a light fun filled story, which is what you want your students to do. Have fun while reading and solving mathematical problems.
